Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to mow my grass with a robotic lawn mower?

How long it takes to mow will depend on several factors, including the season, grass type, robotic lawn mower model and the size of your lawn. Robotic lawn mowers work by cutting your lawn several times per week in order to keep the grass healthy, and some cut faster than others.

What type of maintenance do robotic lawn mowers require?

Unlike most major power tools, robotic mowers require very little maintenance. Outside of replacing the blades from time to time (which is quick and easy to do yourself), just make sure to have it routinely inspected and keep the lights clean to keep it running as safely and efficiently as possible.

How do I charge my mower's battery? How do I know when the battery is low?

Your robotic lawn mower monitors its own power supply and recharges when needed. Once your robotic lawn mower senses low power, it will return to the charging station and dock itself until it achieves a full charge. It will then undock and continue mowing at the next scheduled time.

Can a robotic lawn mower navigate around trees and obstacles?

Yes. Once your boundary wire is placed, your robotic mower will be able to avoid any objects or obstacles without issue. These mowers also contain special sensors that keep them from getting stuck and allow them to turn off their cutting systems when necessary.

How can I keep my robotic mower safe and secure?

Your mower is equipped with GPS technology, and the app will always be able to pinpoint its exact location. If the mower is ever lifted up, an anti-theft alarm will sound, and a code will be required to restart the mower.

How does a robotic lawn mower handle inclines?

While the answer depends on the make and model of the robotic lawn mower you buy, you can expect your mower to handle a moderate incline of 30% to 40%.

To calculate your lawn’s incline, place a stake at the top and bottom of the hill, ensuring each is level. Tie a string to the bottom of the stake at the top of the slope. Stretch the string over to the stake at the bottom of the hill and tie it on, making sure it’s level. At the bottom stake, measure the distance between the string and ground to find the elevation. Measure the length of the string from one stake to the other to find the length. Then divide the elevation by the length and move the decimal point two places to the right to find the slope percentage.

Hands-Free Lawn Mowing

Have more time for what you love thanks to energy-efficient robotic lawn mowers. Forget spending hours on mowing the lawn every weekend or paying a landscaping company to take care of it. A robot lawn mower will keep your lawn neat by mowing it several times a week.

The Best Electric Lawn Mower

A robot lawn mower is an electric lawn mower. A robotic mower runs on battery power rather than gas, so you know you're getting a more sustainable lawn mower. A robot mower will also monitor its own power supply and return to its dock when it needs to charge, so you're not wasting electricity by constantly charging it. Once you've set up a perimeter wire with the appropriate robotic lawn mower parts and accessories for your model, and program your robot lawn mower, you'll be ready to go. When programming the mower you'll set up features like mowing height, theft detection and a mowing timer. If you already own a robot lawn mower but need some help with setting it up, refer to our guide — How to Set Up Your Lawn for a Robotic Lawn Mower.

The Benefits of Switching to a Robot Lawn Mower

Robot lawn mowers have a lot of advantages over traditional push or ride-on mowers that don't just stop at giving you time back. A robot lawn mower requires less maintenance than your typical, gas-powered mower. Clean your mower, change the blades regularly, and have it inspected to make sure everything is in working order on occasion, and your mower will continue to work without incident.

These mowers clip your grass only a little bit at a time, which is better for the overall growth of your lawn, and the tiny clippings left behind work as fertilizer. Robot lawn mowers are quieter than traditional lawn mowers so less noise pollution is created. Some models are compatible with automated home security systems that you may already have. If you need more convincing, check out our guide — Robotic vs. Traditional: The Benefits of Robotic Mowers.

The Best Robot Lawn Mower for Your Yard

Choose the right robot lawn mower for your outdoor space depending on the amount of acreage you need it to mow. Determine whether you need a device to mow up to a 1/4 acre, 1/4 to 1/2 acre, or 1/2 to 1 acre of land.

Shop Robot Lawn Mowers by Brand

Lowe's offers several brands of robot lawn mowers including MowRo, WORX and Husqvarna. Explore the different available models to determine what will work best for your needs. For example, Husqvarna models are the ones that are most capable of mowing larger lawns of 1/2 to 1 acre in size.

Safe And Sturdy

Robot lawn mowers are built with safety in mind. They gently bump obstacles, stop and then turn around. Large wheels with deep treads allow the robot lawn mower to take on slight inclines and terrain. Once you've placed your boundary wire, your mower will know what trees and other obstacles to avoid. Robot lawn mowers have GPS technology to pinpoint the device's location. So if your mower is picked up, it will shut down, a theft alarm will sound and a code will be required to restart the mower.
